Biography
Bharathiraja is one of the most influential directors in Tamil cinema history. He revolutionized Tamil filmmaking by moving away from studio-based productions and showcasing authentic village life, rural culture, and human emotions on screen. Making his directorial debut with 16 Vayathinile in 1977, he introduced a new wave of realism that changed the course of Tamil cinema. Over the decades, he directed numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful films while introducing several actors and technicians who later became major figures in the industry. His contributions have earned him a permanent place among the legends of Indian cinema.
